Opening Night :)

'Gilded Cages'
40cm x 50cm Box Canvas
Well opening night is done, we had such a great night...there were storms all day and I thought no-one would come out in the wild weather but I had a wonderful turnout by my very supportive artist friends so thankyou everyone :) It was cosy and lovely in the restaurant, lots of wine and nice nibblies and as a bonus four paintings were sold and six of my feathers! The people of Genesis were wonderful hosts and very generous, now I have to go sleep off a fuzzy head :)

'Evening Impressions'

Phew, last one for the show...went and hung them all today but had to bring four home as I had so many large pieces. I will sleep well tonight i tell you that for nothing! Tired but satisfied :)

more exhibition featherses

'Green Machine'
'Power Dressing'

'Bronzewing Bling'

'To Dust'

A few more of my feathers for my board - coming up with names is hard :) and finally a picture of my board all filled up with feathers. In each piece I have added a little feather from my collection - some are from the actual birds depicted, but some are just feathers that remind me of the piece, as some of the feathers I used for reference are too precious to part with or belong to my artist friend Catherine.
Off to hang the exhibit tomorrow and opening night is Saturday - very nervous about  the whole thing really :)

My Dark Side woooooo ooooo

'Mere Mortals'
750mm x 750mm
mixed media on stretched canvas

Ok, this one didn't start out spooky, it was actually all about Gray's Anatomy, inspired by my son who is a med student...then it kind of took on a spooky life of its own! This piece includes collaged images of textbook anatomy, lots of metallic leaf and paint, ink and handmade paper - its weird, but I kind of like it :)

A little tweaking

Guess what, we had our first really heavy rain of the season and my studio leaks. Not everywhere...just where I store pastels and anything else that shouldn't get wet :( Anyway, turns out it forced me to do some much needed adjustment on this piece. I was never happy with the haybale, for a start the hay was going in the wrong direction! So now he has a nice comfy wool bale instead...I like it much better now. :)

Mixed Media Frenzy :)

'Urban Fringe Dwellers'
1.55m x 40 cm

How do you take a photo of a painting this shape? Took a few closeups, then a warped kind of distance shot...I don't know :) Anyway, this one has real snakeskin included among all the usual trimmings :)

Countdown to exhbition

Hellooo there :) I know I put countdown to exhibition in the title of this post, then I remembered the cockatoo is for a different show - anyhoo its called 'Vol des Damnes' which is French (ooh la la) for Flight of the Damned. Another one in my Black Cockatoo series. This one is painted very free form, I had so much fun with it...ink under pastel. I included a close up of the tail as the red feathers are what makes this species so identifiable. The feather is from a Kookaburra, which is a type of large kingfisher...they are quite common round here...that one is for my feather board at my exhibition. :) thanks for reading!
