Awful Photo

It's an awful photo but it's all I have, sorry! The actual painting is quite a bit lighter and there is a nice glow to it, but it is another couple of weeks before this one comes home (and there is always the chance of it selling) This one is titled 'A Crash Course inWhimsy' because that's what I had to go on to paint this! Sorry about the quality of these pics, we haven't had a good day this week to take photos. First we had smoke from the stupid prescribed burning in the forest, now we have rain (which I love because we don't get a whole lot of that here). I have just delivered this piece to an exhibition this morning and don't have a decent photo of it :( Anyhow, these are some little teasers for you...after all my serious subject matter lately I have given myself permission to do this silly piece of whimsy...I had fun from start to finish with this one :) I used pretty much everything I could in this, real moth, collage, ink, acrylic, resin, moulding paste and even some air dry clay. I have come to understand the philosophy behind Mixed Media...basically it's using whatever it takes to get the job done! Cheers!

I know, I know, I have been a very poor blogger lately. I'm not making any excuses, but I haven't been producing much at the moment, however I do have a new piece on the slab. We have finally finished the new studio and I am so happy, I just need the plumbing now and it will be perfect. I will post some pics in the next couple of days. For those of you who read my blog regularly, you might remember my excitement at having work accepted into the very prestigious Minnawarra Art Award. Well I was just so excited to be hung in this award there was no way I was going to  miss opening night. It was a beautiful affair, the works were hung wonderfully, there was live music, food and lots of champagne (a little too much fun was had by me in the bubbles department!) So anyway, I could have fainted when they called my name out as a major prize winner - $5000 aquisitive prize for 'Habitattered' (above)! I was elated to say the least. The best part is, this painting communicates a very strong environmental message and it will be hung in the office of the Metropolitan Redevelopment Authority. The Project Director's words were "Leesa's artwork, whilst controversial, aligns with the MRA's conservation strategy and will send a powerful message to all our Project Manager's and Partners." You can't get much better than that right? :) Cheers
