Twillight Graze

Another one from the exhibition, the photo of this one is a bit darker than the actual painting. This piece is about 1m square. For the show I tried to have some paintings that related in some way to the sculptures. Also I love painting kangaroos :) Cheers!

Owl Totem

This is my little Owl Totem, doing these small sculptural pieces was a helpful exercise to get some ideas on how to put larger pieces together. I'm feeling quite excited about the next few months creatively...going up to Zig Zag Gallery tomorrow to paint, drop in if your in the area :) Cheers!

Sunbather

This is one of my Kangaroo sculptures, on opening night he was in just the right spot to catch the sunset! This chap is made from Apoxie clay, plaster bandage, a piece of rusted barbed wire and his armature is a rock from my garden. I was looking for a way to pose him that had the feeling of him reclining and I was walking around my garden posing him on branches, scrap metal etc. When I placed him on the rock he just sat there perfectly :) Opening night at Zig Zag was wonderful with lots of visitors, smiles and champers (and also a few sales which always helps)...cheers!

Zig Zag All Delivered!

Yay, dropped off 29 pieces to Zig Zag Gallery yesterday. It was a hot and slightly stressful job getting everything there safely but I think it was worth it! Marilyn Keys is the lovely curator and I know they are all in safe hands :) Included in the work are 5 small sculptures. I don't normally exhibit sculptures but I've always enjoyed 3d work and I think my practice may branch out a little in this direction. This little Kangaroo is made from clay, plaster and rusty nails on a scrap of rusted iron. I think I'll make a large version of this one...cheers!

Another Birdwatcher

Birdwatcher (painting version) 1m x 1.2m Mixed Media

This one was so much fun to do, it's based on the drawing I posted yesterday. Acrylic, collage, glass beads, posca pens and ink. The photo doesn't show all the texture in this one. Cheers!

Where Have I been?

Birdwatcher - Micron Pen

It's been a while - true. In November we lost our old girl Diesel to liver failure so it wasn't really a very Happy New Year. She was a great big, lovable Ridgeback/Staffy/unknown cross and she was my shadow for 11 years.  Going out to the studio has been so strange without her snoring on the couch. I haven't really been looking at anyone else's blogs for that time either and I have a lot of catching up to do! Anyway, artwise I ended the year really well. The drawing above was given the Works on Paper prize at Kondinin and I also was lucky enough to pick up First Prize and People's choice at our club's annual exhibition for Frankenfish and Nocturne 2. Also, exciting news! I was all booked for a solo exhibition at the Zig Zag Gallery in 2018, then someone cancelled and I said yes, why not! So I have been madly painting (and a little sculpting) hoping to get some new work done in time. It opens on the 3rd March and runs for two weeks, so not much time to get ready :) If you are local please drop in and have a look. I am actually really excited about seeing all my work hanging together and the space is really lovely. Anyway, I have new work to post so hopefully you haven't all given up on me! Cheers :)
