Aloha

For my brother who goes all the places I would like to and brings me photos to rub it in :) I must admit, it was a nice challenge to use all that green! And not my usual subject matter either...

'Aloha' 50cm x 70cm Sand Colourfix with soft pastel and alcohol underpainting.

  1. Leesa...what type of alcohol do you use for the underpainting? (and I know I'm leaving myself open for a joke here)

    1. Hi John :) I use Vodka or Gin, but you can use any clear spirit including Isopropyl (rubbing alcohol) although the last one is poisonous and has a nasty smell. You can reuse the alcohol, just keep it in a lidded jar and the pastel particles will settle to the bottom. You can also use water, but this can buckle the paper; or turps, but again, this is stinky and yuck. Make sure you use Sanded paper like Wallis or Art Spectrum and use a light hand with the pastel layer that you are going to wet down. I also like to have a glass or two of a nice dry red on the side to keep the inspiration going (hee hee). Have fun! :) Leesa
